In order to highlight its high-quality language programs and ensure excellence in language training, in 2013, İstanbul Bilgi University English Preparatory Program applied to be accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) organization, one of the most valued English language education quality certificates in the world. Besides being the only accrediting institution that is recognized by both the United States Secretary of Education and the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA) in the field of the accreditation of English language teaching institutes and programs, CEA is also one of the most comprehensive accreditors in the field of English language education.
During the period that followed, eleven different standards ranging from the aims of the program to the curriculum and assessment methods, from the quality of the faculty to the services offered were reviewed. As the result of a two year long intensive period of study and preparation, İstanbul Bilgi University English Preparatory Program was judged to have successfully met the 44 standards of quality and that the program was capable of sustaining this excellence, thus awarding the program with five-year accreditation, the longest period of accreditation allowable for a first-time application. It has become the third such program in Turkey to receive this accreditation. Accreditation by CEA is a confirmation that the standards in place within the İstanbul Bilgi University English Preparatory Program are of the highest international standards.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman, the rector of İstanbul Bilgi University, made the following statement with regards to the awarding of the CEA accreditation: “BİLGİ has achieved a very important success in line with its aim of being in a league of the best universities of the world. BİLGİ is one of the few institutions of higher learning in Turkey that offers its students the real experience of receiving an international education and this recognition will help BİLGİ go from strength to strength. As a result, BİLGİ is able to offer its students global mobility, the capacity to think critically and the opportunity to be educated as world citizens.”
Didem Mutçalıoğlu, the director of the BİLGİ English Language Program, had this to say about the recognition: “The CEA accreditation is a very important quality certificate that shows that BİLGİ has surpassed the expectations for language education in Turkey. This accreditation not only confirms the quality of education on offer but provides the opportunity for continuous development and sustainability. We are extremely honored to have the education we have on offer in our English Preparatory Program recognized by one of the most competent institutions in the field. With this accreditation, we also promise that we will continue to offer BİLGİ students the highest standard of quality education.”
